August 7, 2012

Field Notes:

August temperatures and sunlight are ripening blossomed fruits, tomato vines are heavy with green, beginning to blush to red, juicy goodness!

The bags will be bursting with lots of delicious goods from here on out.  Mesculin greens will return next week, we had a lapse in a mustard seeding.

The nightshade crops: peppers, eggplant, potatoes, and tomatoes will be in high season these next few weeks.

What's in the Bag?

  • Leaf lettuce
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Garlic
  • 1 yellow, 1 red onion
  • 2 slicing cukes
  • 2 pickling, 2 green apple cukes
  • 2# summer squash/zucchini
  • Blackberries for A - G (4 people)
    (Everyone else next week)

Thinking with the bag...

  • Zucchini relish
  • Summer squash latkes or shred and freeze for the winter

If you feel you are receiving too much in these next few weeks - remember you can always explore food preservation.  Freezing is the simplest of ways to have great summer flavor for the winter!  Just ask us for some advice if you're interested.

Enjoy the food that has been grown and sourced with sooo much human spirit!
