Field Notes:

The sun is setting in the West, the sky above us, in the course of an hour spectrums from blue to violet with clouds that reflect pink and orange.

I find myself in a fielod picking wild blueberries with David Jenney.  He has been working to recover a little over 15 acres of these sweet betties that are a part of land that has been in his family for generations.  We all get a taste of his patient yearly efforts to restore soil pH and keep second growth woodland plants and meadow grass from encroaching and out competing the low-bush fruiting plants.

What's in the Bag?

  • Leaf lettuce
  • Kale
  • Garlic
  • Thyme
  • Mixed green and Purple beans
  • Yukon Gold Potatoes
  • 6 Pickling Cukes
  • 2 Slicing Cukes
  • Wild blueberries from CSA member David Jenney's land in Vassalboro

Thinking with the bag...

  • Potato Salad with a warm bacon, thyme and cider vinegar dressing
  • Fresh beans with peanut sauce
  • Blueberry pancakes

We talk about our usual fare, David and I; laughter is always shred, such fulfilling company, I am so grateful.

Our CSA community is a resourceful one; connecting through place by caring for our local food shed.  I feel lucky to line in Maine where land is valued by a predominant group of people.  I feel I am a part of this generational flow.

Enjoy the bag this week, Green peppers, tomatoes, and red onions are coming right along; keep your eyes on September - winter squash and sweet peppers galore! Yum!

Thank you everyone.
